Disabling Routing on Direct Connection (Service Guard)
Hi All,
I am a Network Engineer working with the server guys at my company who want to implement Service Guard/clustering on two HP UNIX servers. Currently each server has a single connection to the LAN and they are requesting a direct connection between the servers for the "heartbeat" path. My only concern is that these servers have routing capability and could cause a problem if it is enabled. Is there a way to permanently disable the routing function? Any assitance you have to offer will be appreciated. Thanks!
PS. I apologize if this posting is vague, as I do not have too much information on the implementation.

Re: Disabling Routing on Direct Connection (Service Guard)
Hi,
There are different way for HB :
1) On same lan:
You configure HB on the same lan card. This works but this is not "HIGH AVAILABILITY". If you loose HB (network congestion) one of your server will TOC.
2) add 1 lan card on each server :
Connect this 2 lan cards on a specific hub and configure these card on a different subnet (1.1.1.128 for example).
Configure the other cards for data and HB.
In this case, if you loose HB on a subnet, the other will still work.
3)With a 2 nodes cluster, you can connect server via "serial port" for dedicated HB.
Only with 2 servers ! This not very "upgradable" ...
I hope that this will help you to resolve your routing problem.
Regards,
Patrice.
