Disk and Volume Management on HP-UX

Hi,

Is LVM used more or some other tools used most for managing disk and volume on HP-UX ?

Which is the most widely disk management tool used on HP-UX.
I am asking this question because i want to focus on one thing instead of learning everything which may not be useful.

There are usually 2 different disk managers used on hp-ux: LVM and/or VxVM.

I would guess most people are using LVM.

HP's LVM has been around quite awhile and is the default for 11.0, 11.11, 11.23 and 11.31.

In my opinion, LVM is the most widely used. HP-UX also supports VxVM (Veritas Volume Manager). Of course, there is also the option of using raw devices (usually for database files).

I don't think root disk can use VxVM for HP-UX.

Dan is incorrect - HP-UX has supported VxVM root-ability for a long time now.

One point to bear in mind based on some of your previous posts - the cluster filesystem is only supported with VxVM (note by this I mean a filesystem which is concurrently accessed from multiple nodes - LVM does support a filesystem that can be in a cluster - its just only ever mounted on one node)

I have heard that Online JFS is more popular on HP-UX. Is clustering feature (ServiceGuard) possible by using Online JFS ?

Yes, Online JFS is most popular in HP-UX. because it has great feature.

1. online defragmentaion
2. online resizing
3. online backup.

But for cluster systems, you need the clustered file system, like Veritas volume manager, CIFS, RAW file system etc.
