Disk error

# pvdisplay -v /dev/dsk/c3t2d0

The specified path does not correspond to physical volume attached to
this volume group
pvdisplay: Warning: couldn't query all of the physical volumes.
pvdisplay: Couldn't retrieve the names of the physical volumes
belonging to volume group "/dev/vg00".

Re: Disk error

It means exactly what it says. Almost certainly disk c3t2d0 has failed (or been removed or its target ID has been changed). If you have made no changes to your disk configuration then you have a bad disk. Hopefully, vg00 is mirrored so that this is not a serious problem.

Do an ioscan -C disk -fn and post.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Disk error

I agree, 99.99% chances that the disk is failed and if you want to double check you can always write this command:

dd if=/dev/rdsk/cXtXdX of=/dev/null bs=1024k

Jaime

Re: Disk error

Run the dd command against the suspect disk to see if it has failed:

dd if=/dev/rdsk/c3t2d0 of=/dev/null bs=1024k

If it returns an I/O error you have a failed disk and it needs to be replaced.

Re: Disk error

Yep, disk is ok. Check your lvmtab as the above maestro suggested. Use vgscan -p (prep) to compare your strings /etc/lvmtab. Paste the results so we can determine your next step together mon ami.

Re: Disk error

You started with

# pvdisplay -v /dev/dsk/c3t2d0

Did you ever included the disk in a VG?

Please post a

# strings etc/lvmtab

and

# vgdisplay -v

so we can have a look into.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

lvol16 is not mirrored and only on disk /dev/dsk/c2t0d0. But this is another problem.

I think the disk was not visible during boot for any reason and now it is available again, because it is CLAIMED in ioscan and the "dd" command runs without error.

Try to activate the VG again

# vchange -a y vg00

this should include the disk again.
Sync the VG:

# vgsync vg00

This take a while, you can see the progress using another telnet session with

# lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol*|grep stale|wc -l

this gives you the number of stale extends and will decrease.

Let us know the results.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Disk error

You did not replace the disk and it is still the original one, right?

Have a look into

/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

and

/var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log

if there are any kind of IO or disk errors.

Also have a look into roots mail account, if EMS sent messages regarding the disk problem.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Disk error

Torsten has a good suggestion. I also suggest to run logtool and verify other HW devices like your controller.

STM > TOOLS > UTILITY > RUN > LOGTOOL > FILE > RAW SUMMARY

Please paste in this report and an ioscan.

Re: Disk error

0/1/1/1.2.0 is your culprit. put in a service call. Note: It is responding to 'dd' which means it's on the brink. Note: If it were a controller or fc adaptor the HW address for either would have displayed the errors in logtool.

Verify the HW address with ioscan.
