One of the disk is giving me problem at the
time of booting, which I want to replace
tell me how should I display size of each
individual disk.

Thanks,

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

Hi Amit,

Try the following steps, these may help you.

1. Make note of disks available on the system by
# ioscan -funC disk
2. Check the disks already used by
# strings /etc/lvmtab
3. From the above two steps we will get available free disk(s)
4. Check disk capacity by
diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c0t5d0

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

hi,
Try This
1) #bdf
This will give you the filesystem info
i.e. the filesystem which is giving problem belongs to which VG
2) #strings /etc/lvmtab
Just check the VG belongs to which disk
3) #diskinfo -v /dev/dsk/cxtxdx
where cxtxdx you will get from 1,2&3
This will give you the size and model of the disk
Also some advance drives shows the model and capacity in ioscan.

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

Hi,
Thanks to all of you.

Well when I gave ls /dev/rdsk/
It listed 6 files so I am bit confused why
it is displaying 6 files though my
server is just having 4 disks.

Thanks,
Amit

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

Hi

If I remember correctly the old D classes could have 2 internal disks as well as the disks loaded in the front chasis. what model is the server ?

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

hi amit,

Perhaps two of your disks has alternate path defined.
can check it with the vgdisplay command.

or

you had some devices in that particular address and later on you removed them..

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

Amit,

If you cehck ioscan -fnC disk then you will get the correct number of disk connected to System. Out of these one will be DVD(probably in your system it may be /dev/rdsk/c3t2d0). The other one if you do
diskinfo -v /dev/rdsk/c?t?d? then you will find that the message is coming that
"diskinfo: can't open /dev/rdsk/c?t?d?: No such device or address "

To check the size of the disk diskinfo -v is the good to check. Also you can use pvdisplay -v /dev/dsk/c?t?d? and calculate disk size by
multiplying Total PE by PE Size(Mbytes)

Though you will get slight difference in result.

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

The "extra" dev-files could be leftovers from disks that has changed addresses or have been removed. Also you will find a disk device file for any CD or DVD. You could try running lssf on the dev files (lssf /dev/dsk/*).
Also have to mention that HP-UX is out of support and I would reccomend upgrading.

Re: Disk Size On HP-UX

I think Trond meant to say that HP-UX 10.20, not HP-UX in general, is out of support.
