Hi,

What's your OS version? If you're on 11.11 try to install PHSS_30049 or PHSS_30968 since those patches fixes a bugs related with that file...

Re: dld.sl

You could extract it from an (Ignite?) backup after booting to single-user mode, later on there is almost no chance, as even getty won't work.

If there is no backup available, still boot to single user, activate vg00 and mount /var(.../adm/sw/save, that is) and try to find a backup copy there - this will get You a less-but-still-broken system.
after that retrieve the last version of dld.sl from swlist -l file | grep dld.sl
and reapply the corresponding fileset / patch.

if this all doesn't work out, I'd probably chose time over experience and get a fresh harddrive, install hp-ux and take over the old data disks into the new installation.

If any of the forums hints gets up and running and do a backup right then. :)

Re: dld.sl

As a local user, you can execute the commands in /sbin which are statically linked. You don't have cp but you don't really need it because cp can be done either with mv or cat. You also have tar and frecover in /sbin which can be used to restoree your corrupted shared library.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: dld.sl

What errors are you getting ?

While this is generally a pretty bad error to end up with, occassionally, with a specific enough error, you can devise a strategy to fix it.

Do you have a system with an IDENTICAL patch set up ?

You might be able to use that to get up a bit so you can get a copy from your backup of this machine's dld.sl.
