DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Hi,

I want to connect one DLT-4000 model A3590A, and I connect to L2000 (11.00), scsi 4, but the systems doesn't recognize it.
What's wrong?

Thanks,
Carmen.

Insert schgr driver to 1 in the kernel.

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Terminated correct ?
Correct cable used ?
Any error msg ?
dup scsi id used ?
DLT-drive powered on ? :)

Please be a bit more specific.

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Did you terminate it properly? what will be the output of ioscan? Is it show UNCLAIMED? did you load the specific driver for DLT 4000? Is the SCSI ID clashing with some other devices?

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Hi!

Did you install the driver for the DLT-4000?

Is ioscan showing UNCLAIMED?

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Carmen,

You need a 68pin high density to 68pin high density cable and a 68 pin High Voltage Differential terminator. And it needs to be connected to a HVD slot on the L2000.

Does all that check out?

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Hi,

I have the schgr IN, and there isn't any missage, the DLT have correctly the terminator and when I do an ioscan -fnCtape, it doesn't outs anything.

Any idea?
Thanks,
Carmen.

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Hi,

I have take off one DDS and I have put in the same slot one DLT-4000.

Before take off the DDS, it shows me.:

tape 0 0/0/1/0.4.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1537A
/dev/rmt/0m
/dev/rmt/0mb
/dev/rmt/0mn
/dev/rmt/0mnb
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0BEST
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0BESTb
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0BESTnb
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0DDS
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0DDSb
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0DDSn
/dev/rmt/c0t4d0DDSnb

but now, it doesn't show nothing.

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Best guess: You are trying to connect a HVD SCSI device to a LVD SCSI interface.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

I'm with Clay on this one. It's either the wrong bus or a duplicate SCSI ID (unlikely).

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Hi,
And I suposed this is incompatible, isn't it?.
The only way is to install this DLT in an interface HVD, isn't it?

Thanks,!

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Just replacing DDS with DLT will not do the task:

1) Find out the SCSI ID set on DLT. Make it unique.
2) Add required tape drivers to kernel (tape2, stape etc)
3) See if you can see the device from:

# ioscan -fn
4) See if you can see the device from the boot menu (search option)
5) Check hardware errors and SCSI compatibilities.

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

I just checked partsurfer.hp.com for your model and it lists a HVD terminator as an accessory so this drive is definitely HVD SCSI - which is absolutely, positively not compatible with LVD SCSI. You can purchase HVD interfaces for your L box.

By the way, mixing LVD and HVD devices on the same bus can cause some interesting problems - like smoke. It's a really, really good idea to check those pesky little things like specifications BEFORE connecting SCSI equipment. Unfortunately, some start-of-art-stupid guys made it really easy to use the same cable on diffrent SCSI bus architectures.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: DLT-4000 not recognized by L2000

Clay is absolutely correct. This drive is high-voltage-differential aka fast-wide-differential, and you need A5159A dual or A4800A single port HVD SCSI adapter to connect this drive to L-class server.
Please DO NOT interconnect HVD and LVD/SE devices - it can lead to physical component damage
