Re: DLT Tape Devices

Newer tape drives should be faster..

DLT 7000 and DLT 8000. Both need Fast Wide SCSI interface.

Re: DLT Tape Devices

Hi there.
Take a DLT 8000. The DLT 4000 has a thruput of max. 11 GB/hr, the DLT 8000 goes for 36 GB /hr maximum ( average 30 - 33 ). You have to install a separate interface for each drive.

Re: DLT Tape Devices

If you go for a DLT8000 make sure you have a spare FW HSC or PCI card. They are not supported on HPPB.

Re: DLT Tape Devices

DLT8K are not always FW SCSI. I've seen DLT8K drives with LVD SCSI interfaces on galactica class DLT libraries.

Be aware also that you can read cartridges recorded with your DLT4K with DLT 7K & 8K but not the other way (because of head positioning when recording in 7k & 8k mode).

Also note that when using DLT 4k you can "daisy chain" two of them but this is not supported in 7k or 8k because of performance problems and SCSI bus resets.

Also consider LTO drives (up to 200 Gb). The odd point is that DLT and LTO cartridges are incompatible (phisically different).

Best regards,
