DLT4000 Tape Drive Problem

Hi,

I am facing some problem with the DLT4000 drive on HP-UX.

Can anybody guide me how to troubleshoot this?

ioscan command is showing the drive sometimes and some other times it's showing as "NO-HW".

Re: DLT4000 Tape Drive Problem

Hi Madhu,

Is this the only device connected to the SCSI bus? if there are other devices connected in the bus, were the working properly prior to connecting the DLT?

In ioscan, does the status go to "scan" and then "claimed" and to "NO_HW" frequently? If so, you may be having the wrong SCSI controller type. Please check if the SCSI HBA is compatible with the drive.

Provide more details about the SCSI HBA, server type and if the DLT4000 is a standalone or a library.

With regards,
Mohan.

Re: DLT4000 Tape Drive Problem

You have HW problem.
check again your SCSI cable.
Check that you use right terminator.

Re: DLT4000 Tape Drive Problem

NO-HW meens no hardware in other words the server has no connection to the TAPE device.

1. make sure you don't see the divice on another path:
# ioscan
# ioscan -funC tape

2. check the SCSI connecters (all the pins :-).

3. Make sure you have devices installed and activated in the kernel (but here you har able to se the device in the ioscan)

Re: DLT4000 Tape Drive Problem

hi,

when it showing NO_HW .after rebooting the system or in between you are working.when it is showing OK ,the device files are properly shown and are you able to take backup?
when it is showing NO_HW try to power-cycle the library and check.
when it is showing NO_HW try insf -e and check with ioscan.

Madhu,
Like many have said prior to me, check the hardware, you probably seem to have an issue there....
