DLT8000 Tape Library - Drive Communications Error

Hello, I have a DLT8000 Library connected to a HP9000/800 box running HPUX 11.11. I'm having intermittent problems with our DLT8000 Tape library. The following message is showing up on the library display in the hard error log. "Drive Communication error Code 62, Qualifier 105 Sequence 104,111,113,114,115,53 Failed to load tape into drive. Clear the tape path check host idle and power cycle library." When the problem occurs, it alway seems to fail loading to drive 2. There was no other backup running when this error occurred last. Power cycling the library seems to fix the problem for a while, but it's only temporary. I've also tried recalibrating the library. Do you know what could be causing this problem or should I call for maintenance?

These are rather typical symptoms of failing hardware. Since it seems to be confined to Drive 2, it's likely to a drive that is failing (or more accurately the shuttle mechanism for the drive). In any event, it's time to call Mr. Goodwrench.

Imaging this: There are hundreds of different libraries from HP, all with different error codes!

So your codes are useless without telling us the model.

But usually this is a problem of the (broken) DLT drive.
