Dns configuration differences.

What's the different between going with full DNS configuration like:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO.html

and going with the simple option listed in the Rafeed Ur Rehman book?

Shalom Jaime,

The howto from tldp shows you how to set up a full dns server with zone records capable of supporting multiple domains.

This can replace this functionality on a Windows server if you wish.

The Rehman example, if we're thinking about the same thing is not a complete example and can not replace another DNS server.

You might want to point out the page and section number so I can be specific. I don't have the inclination right now to go hunting through that excellent book.

About the difference between knowing how to do integration and knowing the formulae for the volume of a sphere and the volume of a cylinder. If you know Calculus then you can handle many complex volumes but if all you know are formulae then what are you going to do when given a 3-dimensional object that is not a sphere, cylinder, or anything else for which you do not have the formula?

The simple methods can get you started but it's much better to build a good DNS design from scratch --- and you then have the advantage of knowing why something is not working well.

Invest in some good DNS materials and study them.
