My part is configuring DNS DHCP on the new server. At this moment we have DNS DHCP running on a Novell 5.1.
What would be the best (and the easiest ) way to accomplish this. Should I install DNS on HP-UX and DHCP on the Windows 2000 Server.
We are going a way from NDS (Novell Directory Services) as well and we will implement eDirectory. Is there any conflict between DNS DHCP on the HP-UX and eDirectory, that I should be aware of.
I appreciate any comment, tip, or suggestion.

Re: DNS DHCP on HP-UX 11i
we have DNS running on AIX (HP-UX can also be used instead of AIX) and DHCP on Windows.
we haven't tested runiing DNS and DHCP on the same HP machine, if you could do, let's know the procedure

Re: DNS DHCP on HP-UX 11i
I work in a mixed environment.
DHCP is handled on a W2K box.
As is DNS.
But to support a conversoin from .org to .net we had to set up DNS local on the HP-UX box.
We never have trouble unless we get conflicting answers on DNS between the two environmetns which don't share information automatically.
HP-UX is quite capable of handling all or part of the job you describe.

Re: DNS DHCP on HP-UX 11i
If you're already using IE, its probably itrc or connection issues with your ISP.

Re: DNS DHCP on HP-UX 11i
We have DNS on hpux11.00 and dhcp on win2k. We have multiple centers and each with different server.
I run a script on my dns server to collect everyone's data and put them as CNAME to my map.
We are combine all in one. DHCP/DNS will be win2k system and top level dns server will be hpux or linux.
Each center has there own zone and One top level server will keep track of each second level dns server's map.

Re: DNS DHCP on HP-UX 11i
I spent a while looking at various DNS/DHCP methods. Due to not having hpux 11i installed on any of our systems we installed both on a linux server running bind 9.1.3. We dynamically update DNS through DHCP in preperation for Active Directory. I can't see any reason why this can't be achived on hpux 11i as this supports the latest bind levels.

SolutionYou can set up HPUX to be DNS server / DHCP server or both. You can also integrate the HP to work with W2k.
There are some requirements:
This functionality is only supported on HPUX 11i(11.11) or later. It is not
available on 11.0 nor 10.20.
Please review:
BIND: Download the latest version of BIND 9.2 as well as the strong random generator from here:
http://www.software.hp.com/ISS_products_list.html
Review This ITRC Document for dhcptab options
NR0501KBRC00006873 for HPUX
For DNS you need to set the allow-update option.
See Doc NR0501KBRC00006813 in the ITRC database.
Example:
zone "domain.com" {
type master;
file "db.domain";
allow-update {ip_of_dhcp_server;}; <<------ set this
};
Use the strong random generator for you
rndc controls statements.
I recommend the O'Reilly DNS Book 4th Edition ISBN 0-596-00158-4
Also lots of information at www.isc.org, there is a copy of the BIND 9.X reference manual in pdf format on that page..also very handy.
