DNS - Getting Windows DNS (ADS) to play nice with HPUX-DNS
I need assistance with delegation. I have two internal DNS domains sharing the same internal network. Currently they do not share any DNS information.
The first is a domain called CORP running on a Windows 2k server using Active Directory Services. The second is a domain called ABC.Com using DNS running on a HPUX 11i box (v 8.1.2). Without setting up one as a secondary for the other, can I leave them both as a primary for their own domains and simply have each forward requests for the other's domain to the proper server?
The reason I ask, is the number of Active Directory Services boxes (and domains) is growing and will evenutally number 15-20, each with a different internal (not a valid external DNS name) domain.
Thanks For any help!
Steve

Re: DNS - Getting Windows DNS (ADS) to play nice with HPUX-DNS
run...run away......
Isn't "Active Directory" an oxymoron?
I'm not too sure about the multiple SAD (sic) servers, I mean 15 or more domains??
Please no points here. I'm gonna flag this for answers. thanks!

Re: DNS - Getting Windows DNS (ADS) to play nice with HPUX-DNS
I have an internal UNIX DNS server that handles all the UNIX machines. The rest of the PC world is handles by a Windows machine that also serves from the internet.
I added the line to my UNIX box
forwarders 1st.IP.here 2nd.IP.here
fill in your other DNS servers in that line

Re: DNS - Getting Windows DNS (ADS) to play nice with HPUX-DNS
You are correct that you don't need to be secondary for ADS. In your case, you have 2 totally different domain names so you may as well put their IP addresses in resolv.conf for your clients.
If ADS happens to be sub-domain of your main domain, then you would need BIND v8.2 or higher for "selectively forwarding" the requests for ADS to its own server.
