DNS problems?!

I am experiencing som strange behaviour on one of my DNS. Every now and then, the named-process starts twice giving two processes of named started. This is a longshot, but does anyone recognise this?

Re: DNS problems?!

Hi,

What version of BIND are you running ?

That can be for Zone transfer also.

Re: DNS problems?!

Hi

I also would like to ask youto tel us what BInd revision you are running , version 4.9.7 or 8.1.2 , personally I think you might be having an issue with a known problem of bind if it isn't patched ok , I know some time ago we had issues with bind getting corrupted and starting in new sessions .. make sure you run the latest bind patch for 11.x for your bind version , either this be a version 4 or 8 of bind (look on the IRTC patchlist for these patches)

Re: DNS problems?!

Hi Paul,

Disable zone transfer from you DNS server, except to authenticated servers. Upgrade or patch up the system to the latest version of bind. You know there has been issues with bind 4 and 8.

Re: DNS problems?!

well you managed to get onti ITRCto log this all , so in the main window you'll find a subsection

MAINTENANCE AND SUPPORT

the 3rd line is individual patches

in ther you can select the OS system and give the product you are looking to patch

Re: DNS problems?!

Hi ,
why do not you install 9.1.0 and run named . Make sure you are running same named , what you insatlled, named -v you can find the version, normally it should be available at /usr/sbin/named, please check it manually before running it.

Re: DNS problems?!

Concerning the patching , the website to logon to is :

<>.

it is devided in neat blocks , one of them is called maintenance and support , and one of it's functions is individual patches , all HP customer in possesion of a valid contract have access to the current patchlist and can download them online , so what i mean was to go an look on the ITRC website for the latest bind 8 patch for 11.0 and make sure you have it installed , furhter i had a look at version 9 for 11.0 as proposed by the last person , ther is no offisial HP version of 8.2 or 9.1.0 for 11.0 however since ashort while a version of 9.2 exists but it is a beta release and can only obtained by directly going to the support chanel of HP and asking to get it , if you really need the full 9.2 implementation set you could run the beta version (ther are bugrisks with this) , implementing a 3rd party version of binfd 9.1.0 could be done but don't forget HP wont cover it in normal support
