Re: Do i have space for more memory

Hi Jason:

# echo "selclass qualifier memory;info;wait;infolog"|cstm > /tmp/meminfo

Re: Do i have space for more memory

Your can run any of the STM versions (xstm is the easiest if you have an 'X' display; mstm is the terminal version) to examine memory. It will display your current memory and the slots occupied.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Do i have space for more memory

Hi,
If my memory serves me there are 16 slots in an RP7410 so to see thw ones used, use logtoool utility of stm (cstm or xstm...) e.g xstm ->click on memory and on the displayed menu choose information

All the best

Re: Do i have space for more memory

So does the following mean that on one cell there is 16 512 memory chips and i cant put more, i would have to replace?

Memory Board Inventory

CAB/CELL: 0/1

DIMM A DIMM B DIMM C DIMM D
Slot Size (MB) Size (MB) Size (MB) Size (MB)
---- --------- --------- --------- ---------
0 512 512 512 512
1 512 512 512 512
2 512 512 512 512
3 512 512 512 512

Cell Total (MB): 8192

System Total (MB): 8192

Re: Do i have space for more memory

At the time you had 256Mb 512Mb and 1GB Ram
You filled all your cell board with 512MB RAM
So you would have to replace some existing...

Re: Do i have space for more memory

Jason,

Yes you would have to replace some or all of your 512 Mb chips in order to up the memory on the system. Things to remember are that the memory is installed in pairs e.g. two 1Gb DIMMs and is interleaved like (0a:0b|1a:2a). HP would be able to tell you the sequence of memory interleaving exactly for your machine.

Re: Do i have space for more memory

So if i was to buy 4 2GB memory chips, could i remove 4 512 chips and replace with the 2GB's giveing a total of 12 GB?

Re: Do i have space for more memory

Jason - You could do that, or pull twice the number of 512's and run 1024's (probably at a better price/meg price point), if that is cheaper.

Here's the display from my RP7410s using the same command you did, running 10G per Cell board:

CAB/CELL: 0/1

DIMM A DIMM B DIMM C DIMM D
Slot Size (MB) Size (MB) Size (MB) Size (MB)
---- --------- --------- --------- ---------
0 512 512 512 512
1 512 512 512 512
2 512 512 512 512
3 1024 1024 1024 1024

Cell Total (MB): 10240

What you folks reccomend for a memory upgrad on this machine?

Re: Do i have space for more memory

What are you using it for? Oracle? Oracle (and most databases) like lots of ram, and run better with them.

As far as for memory, I think the price point for 1G sets is cheaper, but you're throwing more out to get to 12G. So, you need to get prices for each option and do the cheaper one, UNLESS you're looking at adding even more ram down the road, in which case you should be looking at just buying 2G sets.

Yes it is for the beast of oracle. Thaks for your input.

Re: Do i have space for more memory

Can i add another cell so i could just add to the memoery?

Re: Do i have space for more memory

Yes, you can add another cell, but I think it would need at least one proc in it. My RP7410's are all maxed out with dual-cell systems. Jason, if you look around in the used HP computer dealers, parts (upgrades) to make that server an 8 way with lots more memory (especially if 3rd party) would be quite inexpensive. You should check into that.
