Do I need ToolTalk ?

Hello, I'm new to Hp-UX and there is some differences bettween Linux and hp-ux ! Here's my question : On a HP-UX 10.20 system, I have tried to change the IP address of the ethernet interface (with the SAM), and then could'nt login in a CDE session due to ToolTalk errors. So I have reassigned the original IP address on the interface, and it works. But I must change this IP address, so how can I bypass this ToolTalk problem ?

Re: Do I need ToolTalk ?

see article XRDKBRC00002768

this will will tell you how to deal with it.

do a ps -ef | grep ttdb

i believe this is rpc.ttdbserver is the tooltalk database server. 10.20 does not require that the tooltalk daemon be running for functionality.

Re: Do I need ToolTalk ?

Don't use sam to change the ip address.

Do it here.

/etc/rc.config.d/netconf

or the ipconfig command for temporary changes.

Sam sometimes makes "mistakes" that can cause your network configuration to go haywire.

You can set lots of different ip addresses ont he same card. Attached is an example netconf file that shows multiple ip addresses on the same subnet on one LAN card.

Its pretty easy to understand. Others will attest to the ability of Sam to makes mistakes sometimes.

Re: Do I need ToolTalk ?

Hi,

You can also use
# set_parms ip_address
to set the ip address for the server.

Kind regards,

Re: Do I need ToolTalk ?

Thanks a lot for your answers and for the netconf example. I will try this tomorrow, cause now I'm not at work. (I leave in France, so it's evening now!).
