Dodgy tape drive

I have a Quantum DLT4000 that flashes it's 'clean me' light even after several cleaning tapes have been fed to it.

It will then complete backups with no errors and go back to flashing the 'clean me' light.

Any ideas?

Hi

Get the drive exchanged - I hope you have a support contract on it.

The "clean Me" light is controlled by the drive firmware and is activated when X number of consecuative read/write errors are encountered.

Hi:

I suppose that I would try a new cleaning tape first but I suspect that you have a drive 'goin South'.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
