Does glance come with the Basic OE?

Does glance come with the Basic OE? If yes, what is the bundle name or products name I should install?

Company purchased HP-UX 11i Basic OE. After install I can't find glance.

'find / -name glance' doesn't find it, so it's not on the system.

I did uninstall unnecessary software bundles: Netscape, Netscape Directory Server, WebQoS, TokenRing drivers, FibreChannel drivers, FDDI drivers. None of this stuff should affect glace, right? Haven't touched anything else.

I don't need the GlancePlus Pak, just the glance command itself. I expect that I'll need it for some troubleshooting. If it doesn't come with the Basic OE, can I download it for free, or do I have to purchase it?

Hi,

I believe you get Glance+ pak from Enterprize OE upwards. It is included in neither Base OE or Technical Computing OE. Look at the following release notes on what is included with each OE.

No GlancePlus does not come with the Basic OE. :(

No you can not download it for free. It is a product you have to purchase.

To add to the confusion, HP has two products that include GlancePlus.

B3692AA - GlancePlus for HP9000 Systems (a.k.a. GlancePlus by itself)

B6132AA - GlancePlus Pak (includes MeasureWare and GlancePlus)

That's what I was trying to say in my last paragraph. I need the GlancePlus product only, not the GlancePlus Pak w/ MeasureWare.

Now, does anyone know if I can buy the GlancePlus product without buying a Enterprise OE license?

Yes you can. I am not sure of the exact product number you want but you CAN get just GlancePlus (NOT GlancePlus Pak).

Talk to you friendly neighborhood HP VAR and they should be able to help.

I missed this purchasing part in my earlier mail.

You can get enterprise OE for just *$6105.0. (from software.hp.com) And what you get in addition to Glance+?

Glance+ Pak -> Very Good to have
Highly Available Monitors -> Well, you can have them
Mirror/UX -> Very Good to have
OnlineJFS -> Very good to have
PRM -> Not bad but good if you choose to use

I would spend this little extra $$ and get these additions.

If I was buying this for myself, and had the money, yes I'd buy the Enterprise OE.

When someone else is footing the bill, the purchase has to be justified... "Because it's good to have it" doesn't work with the CIO or the Board of Directors. :-)

As a side note.

Most of the very good to haves there translates in less downtime ... for example resizing filesystems - Online JFS.

Glance in itself is much more than just a "measureware package" it is also an excellent tool for problem diagnosis on the hardware and software side.

Its the small things these packages cure that ellimanates a lot of scheduled and unscheduled downtime.
