Re: Don't forget to remind your users of Sysadmin Day
Always last Friday in July it's the day for the poor souls, who give their blood and sleep unnoticed for hard work to keep all companies running.
They are only noticed, when they are away.
Have a good weekend and i will have a pint of Guiness on all of you tonight in my favorite Irish pub.
Rgds

Re: Don't forget to remind your users of Sysadmin Day
We've been rearranging netwoks physically and IP-wise. Is that Sysadm work?
We've removed one HP server to their rightful owner (they used our network), and added a new rp3410 and a 43P615 physically and logically this week. Now IMHO that *is* Sysadm work.
I managed to get those two up and running out of the box to workable PROCURA environment in less than 24 hours effectively. Just because /that/ sysadmin work is FUN!
So celebrate this day the best way to celebrate: Have FUN!
Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn

Re: Don't forget to remind your users of Sysadmin Day
I would remind my boss about Sysadmin Day, but he is on vacation this week, which means I am in charge. Looks like we will be getting the day off today, after the party of course! ;)

Re: Don't forget to remind your users of Sysadmin Day
I am one of them ... i came to know about it today only.. It's a really good idea to have such day but it should be truly taken up by higher UPs so that some fun/celebration can happen.
Sysadmins really work very hard and go out of the way to keep their Systems Up and running. Self Satisfaction is the sure gift they atleast have.
Any way.. all the best and let us enjoy celebrate the day.
With Regards,
Bharat

Re: Don't forget to remind your users of Sysadmin Day
I consider it a badge of honor that I rarely have to communicate directly with the user community except when helping out management with issues not related to my core responsibility.
I'll take money, apprecciation and points in itrc and think this is a clever idea.
Nice thread.

BYU compatriots, it is an honour to be numbered with you.
ITRC peers and gurus, it is an honour to be associated with you.
All other technogeeks I have ever known, what a wonderful happy bunch you are.

Re: Don't forget to remind your users of Sysadmin Day
now it's back to mundane more or less sysadmin related work at the start of a new weeek and month.
I hope you had enjoyed a nice Sysadmin Day.
Many thanks for your empathy and your warm regards.
It's nice to share a profession with such a bunch of remarkable, dedicated, talented people.
Dave, I hope you may never need that rope.
John, good idea to provide a facility for preparation of a quick snack during nightly long-haul server fondling.
The only thing I'd still miss was a fridge for the drinks.
Procura, you're not alone.
We too have to pump irons, lift floors and crawl through ducts, entangle in networkers' cabling, killing time in boring meetings, arrange appointments with sales reps. and deliverers, educate users in software they had received instructions and training for, tell our clients their requirements, do the red tape of sifting through offers and contracts others get paid for etc.
Worst of all, if something in someones else's responsibilty isn't working we do get all the blame for, and ccontrary credits, appreciation and gifts are snatched by others.
