Downloading gtar for HP-UX

Hi:
I need to uncompress some files using gtar command... but in Hp-Ux does not exist. Where can i get this utility for intall on Hp-UX.

Have you tries searching on the HPUX porting archive - http://gatekeep.cs.utah.edu
This is the site I use, there are others as well.

I did a search there and the response was GNU tar. Is this what you want?

There is an update to tar in the form of a patch in the hp patch database.

It may also give you the features you need such as being able to do files up to 8 GB for example.

Is this just and Upgrade for tar command? must i use /usr/local/bin/tar to uncompress my files in gtar format?

This is a *different* tar command from the regular HP-UX tar.

Whatever the path gtar is installed to is the path you need to use to execute it.

You can replace the original tar command or have the 2 separate tar commands.

Either way will work

I get this messages when i use /usr/local/bin/tar:

/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't open shared library: /usr/local/lib/libiconv.sl
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory
Abort(coredump)

Do i need something more?

How is the PATH setup for the user using the GNU tar command?

You probably didn't install all the required pre-requisites for Gnutar.

You probably need to install libiconv.

Why oh why does HP insist on building GNU utils multilangual?

Either get libiconv and gettext, or fetch *my* port, which does not depend on those stupid libs
