downloading large patches from oracle
downloading large patches from metalink can be really annoying, because the abort rate is fairly high. Does anyone know a downloader, which can handle their strange protocol and
supports resume or has an alternative?

Re: downloading large patches from oracle
The problem is oracle sets up their system so there needs to be user interaction to start the download.
If you have access to the patch, that means you have a support contract. You can order a CD, or you can arrange for private ftp site to be set up. Then a ftp tool with automated retry will do the job for you.
For really big ftp jobs, I use a tool on my HP-UX box called snarf.
It keeps trying and can be easily scripted.

It will not work with oracle, but I use it whenever I need new Red Hat iso files.

Re: downloading large patches from oracle
The easy and sure way is to log a TAR and Oracle will send the patch set in a CD.

Re: downloading large patches from oracle
For some reason, it doesn??t see, that
Oracle wants to download something.
Also the download starts immediately without
asking me where to put the file.
We use proxy server. Is there anything
special to consider except for the proxy
configuration in DAP?
thanks for your suggestions so far.

Re: downloading large patches from oracle
I??d like to give the first one, who suggested DAP, four more points. So if you need them, just reply once more.
Anyway, thank you all.

Re: downloading large patches from oracle
check the options/configurations sections in DAP.
you give your proxy and username/passwd there.
Also, check the connections sections of the options/configurations where you can specify the number of simultaeous connections.change it to 6 and check downloading again.
Thanks
