I've a dead drive (NO_HW) in one of my Jamaica enclosures. How can I relate address to location (position within encl)?
disk 26 8/12.8.0 sdisk NO_HW DEVICE SEAGATE ST39175LC

Solution
Look at the dip switches on the back of the jamaica enclosure and search for the one set to SCSI ID 8.
Each device in the Jamaica enclosure has a set of 4 dip switches to control the scsi id. The one your are looking for will be the one with the switches UP-DOWN-DOWN-DOWN.
From left to right the values are 8-4-2-1 for the switches if they are ON. So, UP-DOWN-DOWN-DOWN = 8+0+0+0 = 8 for the SCSI ID.

Re: Drive Location within Storage Enclosure
Hi.
There is no easy way. Essentially you will need to look at the SCSI addressing on the back of the enclosure for a matching SCSI address of 8. However there is a chance that you may have multiple address 8's, one for each SCSI bus. You will then have to trace back to the where the SCSI cable connects to the server and work out the hardware path which is again hopefully marked on the side of the server.
What server is it?
HTH

Patrick: well, duh...I looked right at the switches and didn't recognize them as such. thanks for the tip. (i'm gonna blame it on not enough light in there :-))
Andrew: its a k-580 w/ 6 processors, running 11.0.
