Driver for HP Surestore DLT70

Hi,

I am planning to attach HP Surestore DLT70 to my K-Class System HP-UX 11.0. But I am not sure what driver to use. I have searched the net and found one using the Model Number of my DLT70 (C5658A). The result title is HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (L&TT).

I find the description of L&TT quite insufficient and still not convinced if this is the correct driver to use.

Does anyone into this situation before? Please help and share word of advise...

Many thanks.

The driver is most likely 'stape'. This needs to be in your system kernel. If it is not, the drive will appear as 'unknown' in the 'ioscan -fn' output. If it does not show up, then you have a either a termination problem, or incompatibility problem.

Re: Driver for HP Surestore DLT70

Hi Michael,

I have attached here the output of ioscan -fn. As you may see no driver appears for my DLT70. The only stape driver on the file is for my internal tape drive.

I am confident that the DLT70 is properly terminated. Right now, I am more on the convern with the incompatibility issue.

Seeing that the device does not appear in the ioscan output, it would seem that there is an incompatibility issue. The 'K' class does not utilise LVD SCSI interfaces so this is where I think the problem may lie.

Re: Driver for HP Surestore DLT70

Hi,

I agree with Michael... stape is of course the responsible driver to choose.

Just checked that the C5658A DLT70e drive has a 68pin/SE connector. So you would need a SE/Diff converter to get this attached to the K-Class. There are no LVD interfaces for HSC (which would be compatible with SE). Another option could be a HP-PB SE interface with a 50pin/68pin converter using the tape2 driver... but I would not recommend that, since HP-PB and tape2 are obsolete.

The internal SE SCSI bus (where the DDS is attached) would work... but how to get the external drive connected?

Best regards...
Dietmar.
