Driver port from HPUX10.20 to 11.00

Hi,

I recently got an used J282 Workstation with an parallax video board which I want to use under 11.00. Due to the fact that Parallax does not exist anymore the most recent drivers are for 10.20 and I'm thinking about a port to 11.00 (I do have the full sources). But I don't have any idea how much work this could be (I did some driver/kernel hacking under Linux/SunOS). Any help is appreciated.

Hi, Nic!

I don't expect too much efford to port it to 11.00/32bit. However, if you plan to use your J282 in wide mode, then you need to make your driver 64bit-clean.

To get an idea a good starting point is the HP-UX 11.00 Driver Developement Guide, appendix A.

Re: Driver port from HPUX10.20 to 11.00

Hi,

Thanks for the hint. I managed to compile the driver and it's in the kernel now (at least I can see a message saying the board was initialized). There were a few changes needed and from what is saw the code is really a mess. Unfortunately it does not work because the XServer I'm using is crashing (the video board needs some XServer extensions) and I have to do some more debugging.

But I have a question regarding ioscan. According to the manual a "ioscan -fn" should show the device files which are related to this driver which is not the case. I created the device file with the right major device number but I'm not sure about the minor device number (should be 0)?

char 0 10/20/5/2 plxv CLAIMED INTERFACE EISA card PLX0001

crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 5 0x000000 Jan 11 16:59 /dev/plxv0

Decoding the minor number is completely done by the driver. So the source should reveil that information. Many drivers use the 1st byte for some kind of instance numbering, so 0x000000 is often correct for the 1st instance with default options.
