DTLOGIN

Hi,
I have a HP UX 10.2 running on a 712/80 box , all of a sudden i was not able to find the box on a XDMCP Broadcast( I,m using Exceed for Unix to emulate the CDE),
I even Tried starting/stoping/restarting the
#sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc services But of No help ,,
Can Any one explore on this ..

Re: DTLOGIN

Hello Asif,

what does your "/var/dt/Xerrors" logfile show after attempting the XDMCP access?
Can you get a login if you use XDMCP "direct" (or "query") instead of "broadcast"?
Do you have a firewall in between the HP-UX and the PC running Exceed?

Re: DTLOGIN

Hi
This problem is not necessary with the HP box, this can be the PC/eXceed as well. I had a similar problem som time ago. Suddenly some (not all) of our servers did not respond to XDMCP brodcasts from my PC (I use Reflection). The strange thing was they responded on brodcasts from other PCs. I reinstalled my PC from scratch with the same result. When I got a new PC evrything worked OK.
Is it possible for you to test with another PC ?

Re: DTLOGIN

Thanx Wodish
The /var/dt/Xerror file is Empty ( No Contents) ..
I tried The configuration of 1. query
2. Indirect 3.Broadcast But no luck ..
Any better suggestion ..

Thanks In advance

Re: DTLOGIN

Did you check if your HPUX box is reachable over the network:
using ping, telnet, ... on the windows machine?

Re: DTLOGIN

Yes,
I'm able to ping , telnet , ftp etc ..
any other poosible solution to resolve this ,,

Cheers

Re: DTLOGIN

I don't know about why the XDMCP broadcast to your PC won't work but try this one:

Open Xconfig --> Communications --> Configure

then

edit the Host list file to include your machine you're connecting to then try again.

Re: DTLOGIN

I'd check that dtlogin is running on the unix box and use Exceeds log / trace utility to gain more info : ie Exceed -> Troubleshooting-> Enable Log & Trace initially On and see what's trapped.

Re: DTLOGIN

Check your exceed settings - you probably inadvertently set up some security feature
exceed - tools - configuration - security - disable -

good luck
