Dual Boot on HP Unix Workstation (B2000)
I would like to add one more Hard Disk and make it 11.11.
Will HP support dual boot?
Which will help me to switch over between 11.0 and 11.11
Generally i used to make Solaris Machines dual boot, where i can specify the desired OS from the ok prompt (eg:- boot disk1 or boot disk0). Is it simple on HP?
Thanks in advance

Re: Dual Boot on HP Unix Workstation (B2000)
Fairly so.
You'd load 11.11 on the second disk & then specify that disk to be the alternate boot disk.
Then when you want to boot that one you'd interrupt the boot process at the appropriate time & specify
boot alt
If you don't interrupt the boot process the primary (11.0) disk would boot.
HTH,
Jeff

Re: Dual Boot on HP Unix Workstation (B2000)
o I'm not 100% certain on this, but internally
on hp site, they're doing this all the time!
so I guess so!.. once you've got a support
contract/agreement for each OS version..
Generally i used to make Solaris Machines dual boot, where i can specify the desired OS from the ok prompt (eg:- boot disk1 or boot disk0). Is it simple on HP?
o nearly identical...
BOOT PRI
BOOT ALT
to set the ALT/PRI path, the disk HW path is written on the box. Set the path from unix using:
rio - / # setboot -?
setboot: illegal option -- ?
usage: setboot [-p primary_path] [-a alternate_path] [-b on|off] [-s on|off]
or
via the BCH via PA PRI
setboot to view:
rio - / # setboot
Primary bootpath : 0/0/2/0.2.0
Alternate bootpath : 0/0/1/1.2.0
Autoboot is ON (enabled)
Autosearch is ON (enabled)
PA from bch to view
Later,
Bill

Re: Dual Boot on HP Unix Workstation (B2000)
This allows you to change the boot path the system will choose when it reboots.
All you then need is to do an install to the new disc of the OS you require on that disk.
