Duplicate tty

I have an HPUX 11.11 system that has many users connecting by telnet. Many of them are assigned the same tty. Previous posts on this board suggested installing the following patches:
PHNE_24829
PHNE_25083
But reading the description of those patches, there is no mention of them fixing duplicate tty's. Another suggestion in another post suggests increasing the npty kernel parameter. But our npty parameter is currently set to 2048, and we only have about 500 users. Has anyone come up with a definitive answer to this issue?

Re: Duplicate tty

I don't have a definitive answer to the issue.

However, not every fix that makes it in gets documented exactly. This is a fact of life.

ANother issue is that one official change may correct a secondary issue as well.

I would suggest putting the latest versions of these patches on your box.

PHNE_28841 (instead of PHNE_24829)
PHNE_30103 (instead of PHNE_25083)

At a minimum, this will save you the trouble of having HP question your patches if you need to open a case with them.

And, quite often, the latest patches will resolve a number of issues.

Re: Duplicate tty

We ran into this about a year ago, (and weren't even recommeneded these patches) - iirc it was mostly caused by interupted sessions. It's gone away now, and I don't really know why, probably we had some corresponding patches in one of the last bundles, so DO try installing these.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.
