In two nodes SG, I can't activate the vg in either clustering running and down situations. Why?
Following is the errors I'm getting:
node01:# vgchange -a y /dev/vgsg01
vgchange: Activation mode requested for the volume group "/dev/vgsg01" conflict
s with configured mode.
Thanks,

Re: Why can't I activate the shared vg on either one of nodes in SG?
When a VG is shared you don't use '-a y' to activate it. Instead you use '-a e' to activate the VG in 'exclusive read-write' access mode on a node in the cluster.
# man vgchange
for the details.

Solution
If you want to activate manually - then you have to pull it out of the cluster 1st:
vgchange -c n /dev/vgsg01
then vgchange -a y /dev/vgsg01
When it is in cluster (vgchange -c y /dev/vgsg01), then you can only activate by having it in a package and starting that package.

vgchange -c n /dev/vgsg01
then vgchange -a y /dev/vgsg01
When it is in cluster (vgchange -c y /dev/vgsg01), then you can only activate by having it in a package and starting that package.

Re: Why can't I activate the shared vg on either one of nodes in SG?
If you follow Geoff's advice, you will have to do the vgchange -c y /dev/vgsg01 prior to using it under ServiceGuard again.
And you will have to run that command (the vgchange -c ) while the cluster services are up.
