I have a rx8620 server with HP-UX 11iv2.
I want to install a DVD Writer and take the OS image in a DVD.
Can you help in getting the correct procedure which is tested before. The server is very very critical and customer does not wants to do R&D on that. He wants the job to do with a tested procedure.
With thanks in advance...
Ajith.

Re: DVD Burning in HP-UX
Excellent links above, same ones I would have used.
Note that HP's current choice in DVD writers only supports RW+ media. Other formats creat coasters.

Re: DVD Burning in HP-UX
Thank you very much for the links provided by you.
I would like to ask one more clarification.
The procedure is clear for making the bootable OS image.
In the final step it says to Burn the ISO-Image to CD/DVD media with any burning software.
Can I use the growisofs command for writing the DVD..? What should be the syntax for that...?
Regards,
Ajith.

Re: DVD Burning in HP-UX
Yes, you can use growisofs to write the ISO image created using "mkisofs" before.
Be aware & as Steven mentioned already, you should use the DVD RW+ media and HP DVD RW drive.

# growisofs -dry-run -dvd-compat -Z /dev/rdsk/c1t2d0=
You can refer the online man page of "growisofs" as well.

Re: DVD Burning in HP-UX
Thanks for your quick response.
Let me try these steps in a test machine ( except burning the image as i dont have a dvd writer on the same).
I will come back to you with the result.
Thank you once again...
Ajith.

Re: DVD Burning in HP-UX
The discussion above is from 13 years ago.
hp.com is now a consumer printer and laptop company.
HP-UX and related hardware is now hpe.com
The links have not been consistently transferred so use Google to try and locate them.
HP-UX does not any official way to burn CD/DVD media.
You will save a lot of time and frustration by transferring the ISO image to a PC and burning it there.
