EISA Lan card runs on 10Mb, trying to get it running on 100Mb

I have a D380 system running on HP-UX 10.20.
It has two network cards, one 10Mb buildin and an EISA 10/100 card.
The eisa card LEDs indicate that it is running on 10Mb and so does the 'lanadmin -s 5' command.
I tried to use the 'lanadmin -x 5' option as described on this forum, but get an error message saying 'This option is not supported for this hardware'.
Trying to change the speed with 'lanadmin -S' results in an errormessage 'Unable to change speed: errno = 22'.
The 'ioscan -fkC lan' command says it an 'EISA card INP0500', with driver btlan0.

From the patch database I have figured out I probably need patch PHNE_21373. Should I apply that or is there something else I should know and/or try first?

Thanks!

Andre

Patches are required for this command to function as expected. Once the patches are installed, should be able to configure for speed. For a btlan0 (I believe that is what you are running) you will need patches PHNE_21216, PHNE_21373, and PHCO_10947.
You may need to reconfigure the netconf file after patching and rebooting. The names changed on me.

Thanks Rick. It confirms that I am on the right track. However, where did you find patch PHNE_21216? I can't find it when I list the patches for an 800 system running 10.20.

I had an error like yours. It was caused by the network cable using the wrong pins! The cable would work 10-Base-T but not 100-Base-T.
Insure one pair of wires is on pins 1&2 and a second pair of wires is on pins 3&6. Someone wired the pairs 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8 instead of 1&2, 3&6, 4&5, 7&8! Just something to look out for.

I had a problem like you. I have a D220 and I
couldn?t configure the EISA card in 100FD because it is not supported. If you see the file /etc/rc.config.d/hpeisabtconf, you will
see that the card can be configured only as
10HD, 100HD or auto_on. You can modify this
file to configure it or you should be able to
run "lanadmin -X 100HD number_of_lan"

I have tried this patch PHNE_21373,and it works well. That is, after installation of it,your problem may be disappeared.

Re: EISA Lan card runs on 10Mb, trying to get it running on 100Mb

The system has been moved to another location. It has been connected using new cables and to a new switch: it now runs on 100Mb. I did not apply the patches yet, looks like I don't need to for the moment.

Thanks for all the responses!

Re: EISA Lan card runs on 10Mb, trying to get it running on 100Mb

Just to let you all know, just to be sure last week I have applied the patches PHNE_21904 (has replaced PHNE_21216) and PHNE_21373.
Everything still works fine, I had no problems with the upgrade, only the btlan01 device is now called lan1. That's all. Thanks for all responses.
