emacs fail to launch in HPUX
I have installed emacs on HPUX 11, and try to launch it from PC running PC-Xware connected to HP Server, I am running gui interface. I can run dde, vim, wdb under gui interface, but emacs failed to launch by giving the following message:
Warning: arch-dependent data dir (/opt/emacs/libexec/emacs/20.4/hppa2.0n-hp-hpux11.00/) does not exist.
Warning: Lisp directory `/opt/emacs/share/emacs/20.4/leim' does not exist.
No fonts match `-dt-interface user-medium-r-normal-s*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*'
If I do unset DISPLAY, the emacs works, but only under text character format, not the GUI, which means it do not reponse to mouse action. It seems like emacs can not find some kind of font. I am just wondering if it is the problem with my PC-Xware tool on pc side or I need to install something on server side ? The version of emacs I am using is emacs-20.4

Re: emacs fail to launch in HPUX
Wenjie:
Go ahead and create the two missing directories so emacs will stop complaining about those. But the missing fonts look like the real problem, so you need to somehow provide these for your PC X server.
I've never used PC-Xware, so I'm not sure how exactly that would be done. You might be able to directly copy the missing fonts into PC-Xware's own fonts directory, and update its 'fonts.dir' and 'fonts.alias' files. This would be pretty involved, though, since you'd have to go through each of the /usr/lib/X11/fonts///fonts.alias and fonts.dir files on the HP system to figure out which font *file* is actually represented by "-dt-interface user-medium-r-normal-s*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*". A well-written 'find' command (with "-exec grep") would help with this. I'm not even sure how you'd decide which character set to pick, though.
An easier way would be to try configuring an X font server (xfs) to run on your HP system. You can set one up with minimal effort using SAM. You would then need to configure your PC X server to connect to the HP-UX system's font server. I think 'xfs' usually runs on TCP port 7000, but the man page for 'xfs' should have all the right information. If you have support through the vendor of PC-Xware, they could probably help you out with setting it up on the PC side.
