EMAIL-- Receiving MS Attachments

I have email messages being forwarded to an HP-UX Server with Microsoft Attachments (Word, Excel, etc.). Is there a way to "decode" and read the attachment.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: EMAIL-- Receiving MS Attachments

1. If you use the GNOME environment (more information at http://software.hp.com/products/GNOME) then you can use abiword to read MS-Word and Gnumeric to read MS-Excel. Note that abiword does not support tables as yet.

2. You can also take a look at QuickView plus for UNIX. More information at http://www.stellent.com/intradoc-cgi/nph-idc_cgi.exe?IdcService=GET_DYNAMIC_CONVERSION&RevisionSelectionMethod=LatestReleased&dDocName=p2000401

3. You can export a Windows terminal to UNIX. See http://www.citrix.com

Do not expect perfect rendering of MS formats in UNIX except in case of 3.

Thanks.

Re: EMAIL-- Receiving MS Attachments

Hi,

You could use CIFS/9000 to share a directory with the saved attachments out to a MS box. Then just use the MS box to read the files with the appropriate application.

Alternatively use a .forward or an alias to forward the mail to an email account that is accessed from an MS box.

regards,

Darren.

Re: EMAIL-- Receiving MS Attachments

Hi,
If your question is how to view Microsoft file attachments on HP-UX, then you have several way.
There's some Unix tools to convert Excel and word file into :
html, postscript, pdf.
And you have some tools on HP-UX to view html,ps,pdf...

For Excel conversion, I'm using xlhtml : http://chicago.sourceforge.net/xlhtml

I'm using this tools with Apache to convert Excel file stored on a file server for viewing !! And it works very well !

For Word conversion, I'm using 2 mores tools :
one wvware : http://sourceforge.net/projects/wvware
It's not perfect, header are not properly managed, but for http viewing it's OK.
For better result, you can convert the word to postscript and or pdf (you have many viewer for this format on HP-UX)
to convert to postscript, i'm using antiword : http://www.winfield.demon.nl/index.html
the result is better than wvware. You can later convert pdf to html (tool pdftohtml) if you want to have a standard result !!

Most of these tools are also available in binary format on HP-UX portal centers
