EMS alerts to cell phone

Hi
Recently I configured EMS on HP UX 11.11. I setup the rules such a way that all alerts >=serious should be emailed and also notice should be sent to Mobile ( @tmomail.net, for Tmobile cell) . The email part is working fine but the i cud not able to receive the message on mobile.

Later realized that our Exchange server is discarding these messages to sent out side of network as it is not from a valid user id ( root@host.domain.com ).

Is there anyway I can change the "FROM" field in the emails sent by EMS or is there any other aleternatives for this. Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Chandra

Re: EMS alerts to cell phone

You could talk to your Exchange admin to add your server as a valid host for sending mail through the internet email gateway.

I haven't worked on Exchange for a while, but that shouldn't be too hard for them.

Hi Chandra Sekhar,

You can configure through /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig and give the email/pager number for notification.

Also need to enable the email acceptance at exchange server , if it is routing through the exchange server.
Are u talking about windows exchange server , or the Telphone exchange server ...!!

Cheers,
Raj.

Re: EMS alerts to cell phone

It's enough if You get the HP-UX box onto the relay list of the Exchange server. (In Default Setup: First Administrative Site -> Server -> SMTP Virtual Server -> Properties -> Relay -> check 'allow the following hosts')

Otherwise You'll have to go the hard way by inserting a envelope masquerading macro to /etc/mail/sendmail.cf.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Re: EMS alerts to cell phone

I can confirm that there is no way to change the sender of the message inside EMS. The fix or workaround needs to be along the path after the message has been sent by EMS, either in sendmail or in the Exchange configuration.

Re: EMS alerts to cell phone

Hi,

a simple method without the need of changing the Exchange Server could be to write a simple email wrapper on the Unix system. One method to do it with awk could be (there is an infinite number of other methods):

1.) create the following awk script "/etc/mail/emsmobile.awk" (The L variable makes sure the original mail header is cut off):

/^From: / {print "From: root@host.domain.com ";L=L+1}
/^To: / {print "To: @tmomail.net" ; L=L+1}
{if(L>2) print $0 }
{if(L==2) L=L+1}

2.) create a line in the file /etc/mail/aliases:

emsmobile: "|/usr/bin/awk -f /etc/mail/emsmobile.awk | /usr/sbin/sendmail -t"

3.) run "newaliases"

4.) run monconfig to add notifying via email to the address "emsmobile"

best regards

Stefan

Re: EMS alerts to cell phone

It's probably easier to get you email administrator to allow root email from your machines to be processed. That way you can add email alerts for full filesystems, out of swap space, nproc or nfilie limit warnings, etc. Not everything in the world is a PC (for your Exchange admins).
