Enabling FC For Tape Drives?
I have installed QPK1100 and HWE1000 bundles. Also the HP A6795A fw revision and status LEDs on HP hub are ok.
When I send fcmsutil /dev/td0 get fabric I get a warning:
The Fabric parameters shown below might not be valid, since the HBA is not currently logged in with the Fabric.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Enabling FC For Tape Drives?
Have you zoned it into your switch?

Re: Enabling FC For Tape Drives?
for: fcmsutil get fabric
Fabric Port World Wide Name = 0x0
Fabric Node World Wide Name = 0x0
Common Service parameters:
All = 0x0
Class Specific Service Parameters:
All = 0x0
Vendor version:
All = 0x0
Have you zoned it into your switch?
No I haven't. Is there documentation available to do this?
Thanks!

Re: Enabling FC For Tape Drives?
Topology = PTTOPT_FABRIC
How is it cabled?
Does the fibre cable go to a brocade fibre switch?
If so do have anyone on your site who has done this type of work previously? (switch zoning)

Re: Enabling FC For Tape Drives?
What does this have in the fcmsutil output?
Topology = PTTOPT_FABRIC
>>
Topology = PRIVATE_LOOP
How is it cabled?
Cable from HBA to port 1 of HP 6 Port HUB D6976A (Green LED) Cable from HP HUB port 2 (Green LED) to tape drive.
Does the fibre cable go to a brocade fibre switch?
No this is a HP 6 Port Hub.
If so do have anyone on your site who has done this type of work previously? (switch zoning)
No

Re: Enabling FC For Tape Drives?
From the equipment that I've seen and used, I've never heard of using a fibre channel hub to connect HPUX servers to tape drives. What is normal is that everything plugs into a fibre channel switch, and each port is "zoned" so it can send traffic to and from specific ports only.
Are you sure that this piece of equipment (D6976A) is compatible to both the fibre HBA from your HPUX server an the tape drive your using. BTW what model is the tape drive(s)
Private Loop is not a fabric. Fabric is used in switches. The main difference is that in a loop, one service gets access at a time, but with fabric all ports can get serviced at once.

I went to a Brocade SilkWorm 3200 and now everything is ok. I am not sure why the Hub didn't work (status appeared ok) as Private Loop but now I am ok with the switch.
Thanks!
