Encountered strange ftp error in HP-UX 11.23i

Dear HP-UX gurus,
Would really appreciate your advice the steps to enable the ftp:

1. edit /etc/inetd.conf
2. un-comment the following entry:
telnet stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/lbin/telnetd telnetd
3. edit /etc/services, uncomment the ftp entry
4. stop and start the inetd demon
# /sbin/init.d/inetd stop
# /sbin/init.d/inetd start

but when i try to telnet using windows command prompt, it says - Connection to host lost.
another server with the same subnet is ok, but this server we are unable to ftp.

Hi

Please check the following

1) Ping the server from PC.
2) telnet & ftp entry in /etc/inetd.conf
3) do "inetd -c"
4) do "netstat -a | grep telnet " and check Port is Listening
5) Check "/var/adm/inetd.sec" file for any restrictions.

2) try to telnet using IP
3) telnet 0, you able to get the prompt ?

hi,
i'm able to ping the server ip from my pc, but i still can't telnet.
the server is listening to the telnet service and i have commented out the # for telnet.

Did you check any error message wrt telnet service in syslog.

i've recorded the time i telnet. when i see inside the syslog.log, it shows me this error line:
Jan 28 15:50:53 ixora inetd[22251]: exec /usr/lbin/tenetd: No such file or dire
ctory

the working server, i got this entry in syslog.log when i telnet to the server:

an 28 15:58:53 lily sshd[10280]: Accepted keyboard-interactive/pam for root
from 10.120.0.180 port 3374 ssh2

appears to be a typo in /etc/inetd.conf

file should be /usr/lbin/telnetd, *not* as shown in your previous post

that's not a telnet message, its from secure shell.
