encryption using sendmail

is there way to encrypt e-mail and attachments using sendmail.

You don't per say encrpyt sendmail output.

What you do is use a tool that uses the sendmail transport to encrypt the mail before sendmail gets it.

There are several ways to do this. There is a web based mail called squirrelmail http://www.squirrelmail.org that has plugins that allow for very strong encryption of the mail before its submitted to sendmail for transport.

There are a number of tools you can use on your pc that will do the same thing with the mail prior to submitting to sendmail for transport.

As far as default encryption of all mail, even from system cron jobs and such, I can't think of a way to do that.
