Envizex II does not respond
I have communication problems between a HP-UX G30/9000-800 server and four
Envizex II model C5200A and one envizex a series X-terminals.
Once a day one of these X-terminals "hangs" for several minutes and even with a
ping command there is no responce.
In Some cases we must reboot a X-terminal to get the communication right.
These problems appeared after we had exchanged four a-serie X-terminals for the
new Envizex II,we also installed the new netstation software.
The following software is installed:
HP-UX version B.10.20
Y2K-1020S800 version B.10.20.B0315
HP netstation version B.09.11
HP Enware X-station version B.07.11

Re: Envizex II does not respond
1) is this happening to all five Xterms ?
2a) is this happening while inside a particular application ?
2b) were the Xterms configured with enough memory for the required applications
?
3) is there anyway to monitor the G30-box for network problems ? (like
glance..)
4) is the netstation software installed and configured correctly ?
5) are the Xterms configured with the correct network parameters ? (subnet
mask, gateway, etc..)
Hopefully these questions will point you to the solution. Good Luck!

Re: Envizex II does not respond
It 's tricky to say with just this info :
however remsh get log & stats may reveal something as may the
Xservers log file on the server. It could be a case of physical memory
especially if the application is java or color hungry ?
You can run xtadm to check for installation / networking problems. I also
advise getting some network sniffer package to check if network load or
collisions increases at the same time as the hang ?
Basically you need to check the xterminal logs, check network traffic and if
applicable also test on the same subnet / lan segment. Also if possible try
adding more memory and also test the settings wrt buffer cache etc, there's a
good section in the Netstation Technical Admin Guide on utilising memory that
maybe applicable.
Also if using TFTP to downlaod the code, use NFS instead.
Hope this helps ?
