error happen while extension /

to extend / do you deactive the vg00 !!
the sector of disk can be contiguos.

with your fsadm comand do you create a / of 1 Mb!!!!

How to have JFS online. What do it mean
"vxfs mount: /dev/vg00/lvol5 is corrupted. needs checking
vxfs mount: /dev/vg00/lvol4 is corrupted. needs checking" ?
I can not mount lvol4 and lvol5.

If you need to extend / or /stand or primary swap, you can not use lvextend and fsadm for this purpose. These three logical volumes needs to be contiguous and one right after the other.

First off, if you set up / something like 200MB or more to start with, extension should not be necessary at all. Before extending it, I'd check the space eaters and get rid of them by deleting and/or moving them to other filesystems. / is a static filesystem and should not grow. 1GB stand is kind of ridiculous.

Having said that, if you still insist on extending the size of /, you cannot do it like any other filesystem on the fly. You need to create an ignite tape and and reboot your system, booting it from the tape you just created. It will present you an installation screen, which is where you can specify the new volume size to your heart's desire. All in all, you will need to rebuild your system to accomplish what you are trying to do.

You cant extend / even with online jfs.

Run backups on your system.
Do a make_tape_recovery of the entire vg00 with interactive mode.
Rebuild your OS with that tape.
Choose a better size for root.

make_tape_recovery -A -I -p -v -x inc_entire=/dev/vg00 -a /dev/rmt/0mn

will back up your system.


reboot
interupt at ten second prompt
search for boot devices
choose your tape device to boot too
modify your filesystem sies and rebuild your OS
problem fixed

Make sure you have backups of your app datata on hand just in case.
