deleting a Volume group and logical volumen mounted in u00

Hi was having some problem configuring a Volumen group with the SAM application.

Finally I can delete it but when I try configure it again send me a message like that the u00 that was the previous mount point exist.

I want the same mount point name , how can I do to create this,

When the mount point is solved these will be my step to follow.

create the volume group

create the logical volumen and the mount point .

More comment will be welcome .

Thank you

Re: deleting a Volume group and logical volumen mounted in u00

William,

here are the steps that might be of consideration:
1. Check the volumegroup for existence in the lvmtab

# strings /etc/lvmtab | grep u00

2. Then check for the existence of the group file for the volumegroup

#ll /dev/vg_name/*

if you find something you can get rid by doing a

# vgexport vg_name

after the cleanup you can rebuild the volumegroup and mount it up again. If you need more on this, please let us know

thanks

hi,

check the /etc/fstab, remove the old one for u00 if it exist.

GOOD LUCK!

Re: deleting a Volume group and logical volumen mounted in u00

There is some confusion in your post. When you say mount point, what did you actually mean? is u00 is the volume group name or the directory on which your filesystem was mounted?

Can you give us the previous volume group name, lvol name and its mount point?

W:S-

do not use SAM. try command line interface.

if you can: comment out the Mount-Point in the /etc/fstab and then ok, Reboot your system.

This way, it is not being used.

Re: deleting a Volume group and logical volumen mounted in u00

check and make sure the old stuff is gone
vgdisplay -v /dev/vgyouroldvolumegroup | more

Note if there are any logical volumes left
lvremove unwanted logical volumes

vgreduce command to remove disks out of exists vg till there is only one left

Then you can use vgremove

Clean up your /etc/fstab
Create the new VG
mkdir /dev/vgwhateveryoulike
mknod c 64 0x00000 Some free number basically make sure the number of digits after 0x match
ls -la /dev/vg* | grep -i 0x # see whats free
pvcreate your disks
vgcreate your volume group read the man on this and set the maximum number of disks to something higher than 16 :)
vgextend in any additional disks you need in the vg
lvcreate -L -I -i your volume groups Use the I's for striping if you have more than one disk.
Mirror your freakin disks so it doesnt rain on your parade :). Unles you are already raided by something like a san so your data is safe.
mkdir /dev/vg#1
mknod /dev/vg#1/group c 64 0x010000
# note 0x010000 must be unique to your volume group
This demonstrates 3 disks in VG
pvcreate /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#
pvcreate /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#
pvcreate /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#
vgcreate /dev/vg#1 /dev/rdsk/c#t#d# /dev/rdsk/c#t#d# /dev/rdsk/c#t#d#
lvcreate -L 24000 -i 3 -I 1024 -n
#24000 meg volume with 3 disk stripe ;) and 1024 is the stripe size
datavol /dev/vg#1
newfs -F vxfs -o largefiles /dev/vg#1/datavol
edit fstab
mount the disk
Of course substitute with your disk device or devices.

Re: deleting a Volume group and logical volumen mounted in u00

I have deleted the VG but now I amm creating only a logical voleme,

My VG is this one
#vgdisplay /dev/oradata

--- Volume groups ---

VG Name /dev/oradata

VG Write Access read/write

VG Status available

Max LV 255

Cur LV 0

Open LV 0

Max PV 16

Cur PV 5

Act PV 5

Max PE per PV 17365

VGDA 10

PE Size (Mbytes) 4

Total PE 86810

Alloc PE 0

Free PE 86810

Total PVG 0

Total Spare PVs 0

Total Spare PVs in use 0

The customer want only a logical volume with the total VG space.

When I do the following command send me this message , some idea?

# lvcreate -L 347220 /dev/oradata
lvcreate: Specified LogicalVolumeSize is too large for the PhysicalExtentSize

of the Volume Group. Resulting number of extents is out of the range

1 to 65535 (86805).

Re: deleting a Volume group and logical volumen mounted in u00

Hi,

You need to recreate the VG with a little bigger PE size. Atleast take 8MB or 16MB as PE size while recreating the VG and the error should go.

Re: deleting a Volume group and logical volumen mounted in u00

Hi,

Find out the 5 disks on which this volume group is spread by
#strings /etc/lvmtab

Then
#vgexport /dev/oradata
( To remove the information related to this VG to be removed from /etc/lvmtab. Confirm by "strings /etc/lvmtab" and the VG should not be listed)
#pvcreate -f /dev/dsk/cxtydz
Repeat for all five volumes.
#mkdir /dev/oradata
#cd /dev/oradata
#mknod group c 64 0x0?0000
( Where ? is the unique no. confirm by "ls -l /dev/*/group)
#vgcreate -s 16 -e 12000 /dev/oradata /dev/dsk/cx1ty1dz1 /dev/dsk/cx2ty2dz2 .... (Write all 5)
#lvcreate -L 347220 /dev/oradata
#newfs -F vxfs -o largefiles /dev/oradata/lvol1

Then also make entry in /etc/fstab for auto mounting.
