Re: Error Message during booting

I had the same problem where one of my HP-UX servers crashed in an install. It did not like that, and so it couldn't boot up as well. I figured I'd try rebooting it cleanly and that worked.
So, go into single-user mode, then reboot the system. It should boot fine after that.

Re: Error Message during booting

What changes were done to the system before this message ever appeared? It looks like possibly bad firmware. At what point in the boot process does this message display?

Re: Error Message during booting

laifeng,

If the reboot doesn't bring the system up clean this time, please let us know what you were doing that needed a reboot. New patches? New application? etc.

Re: Error Message during booting

Hi

Did you try and do another reboot, this might fix it if there was no change donw on the system. If not there seems to be some kind of Hardware issue.

Re: Error Message during booting

Is your card installed to one of the bottom 2 slots in the IO box? These slots are not available for an A400. If so, move it to the top slot or the one one the outside of the box. (Toward the middle of the machine.

Otherwise, what happens when you remove the card completely? Does the machine boot normally?

Hope it helps

Re: Error Message during booting

It seems to have 3 PCI slot inside the I/O box .Whether I installed the card inside or outside the box ,it cannot boot normally anyway . But I've not tried to remove the HBA yet . I'll try it tomorrow if no better solution I know .
Thank you !

Re: Error Message during booting

This may seem like a silly question, but it's worth asking. Emulex makes a variety of cards. Are you certain that the card you have is specific to the model HP server?

Also, on the PC side I know with the Emulex HBAs you have to make sure that the bios on the card does not have the boot option turned on. I don't know if there is a similar setting for the HP compatible card, or not, but it's worth checking.

Re: Error Message during booting

HI Layfing

To get your system up so you can fix it again. DO the following.

Interrupt the system at BCH menu. This is hwere it prompts you to press any key in 10 seconds to interrupt the boot prompt.

1.Type "bo pri"
2.Reply yes to the quest "Interact with IPL"
3.The type "hpux /stand/vmunix.PREV "
If that variant does not work try the same procedure as boave only with the step below for the last one.
3.then type "hpux -is /stand/vmunix.PREV"

I am assuming you only recompiled your kernel once with this procedure. If you recompiled it more than once your vmunix.prev might be "dodgy" as well. Then you will have to go to more extreme measures.

Did you make an ignite tape before attempting this procedure ?

Re: Error Message during booting

After I remove HBA from the system ,it boot normally !
But it is sured that HP-UX 11i is supported by LP9002L HBA ...
I've issued it to Emulex .
Thank you all for those helpful suggestions !
