Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

I have noticed something over here though I have created all of them in a similar way

On one of the servers
--------------------
# hpvmstatus -s
[HPVM Server System Resources]

Processor speed = 1416 Mhz
Total physical memory = 4065 Mbytes
Total number of processors = 4
Available memory = 826 Mbytes
Available swap space = 5792 Mbytes
Maximum vcpus for an HP-UX virtual machine = 4
Maximum vcpus for a Windows virtual machine = 4
Maximum vcpus for a Linux virtual machine = 4
Available entitlement for a 1 way virtual machine = 1416 Mhz
Available entitlement for a 2 way virtual machine = 1416 Mhz
Available entitlement for a 3 way virtual machine = 1274 Mhz
Available entitlement for a 4 way virtual machine = 1274 Mhz

On the other server:-
------------------------
# hpvmstatus -s
[HPVM Server System Resources]

Processor speed = 1416 Mhz
Total physical memory = 16353 Mbytes
Total number of processors = 4
Available memory = 12316 Mbytes
Available swap space = 5792 Mbytes
Maximum vcpus for an HP-UX virtual machine = 4
Maximum vcpus for a Windows virtual machine = 4
Maximum vcpus for a Linux virtual machine = 4
Available entitlement for a 1 way virtual machine = 1416 Mhz
Available entitlement for a 2 way virtual machine = 1416 Mhz
Available entitlement for a 3 way virtual machine = 1274 Mhz
Available entitlement for a 4 way virtual machine = 1274 Mhz

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

Need ALOT more info from you.

Post hpvmstatus -vP your_vm

Post a screen shot of the hardware tab from the Ignite installer.

Maybe a screen shot of the LVM tab of the Ignite installer.

If you are cloning another OS with Ignite, what is the required size.

This all depends on what you are doing, what is included with the image you are installing, what is the configuration of the image you are installing. e.g. trying to assign 36GB of primary swap space to a 40GB backingstore will not leave any room for the os.

Installing the OS from a vdvd

Maybe a screen shot of the LVM tab of the Ignite installer.

If you are cloning another OS with Ignite, what is the required size.

No Cloning..

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

This info does not help. Need to know what the installer sees as storage, need to know what it is trying to configure for LV sizes.

What ever storage the installer sees is obviously not enough or does not even exist. Either fix the storage or review the lvol sizes for some anomoly. If we cannot see what you are doing then we cannot help. Sorry.

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

Hello,

Which disk do you use ? If you installed HPUX on the c0t0d0(in the VM), sure there's not enough place, try to use c0t2d0.

Be careful when you select the disk in the menu.

Let us know.

Hope this helps

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

Actually I have only 2 disks on the server each of 146 GB and so I have done implemented a h/w raid on them. So I think I can use only c0t0d0 on which i have done a lvcreate of lvol9,10,11,12

If I can know how to capture the above two screen shots... I will do that and post it here.

Thank you..

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

Hi,

It is a HPVM. You try to remove all other partitions except /stand, /, swap. Assign all space /stand = 1792, swap = double of RAM/equally, / = rest of the space available. It should work.

Please check the Host Swap Size in HPVM. VM hosts required SWAP minimum 150 % of RAM Size.

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

Hello,

First to be sure you're using the good disk :

hpvmmodify -P VM03A -d disk:scsi:0,0,0:lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol9
hpvmmodify -P VM03A -d disk:scsi:0,0,2:lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol10
hpvmmodify -P VM03A -a disk:scsi:0,0,0:lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol10
hpvmmodify -P VM03A -a disk:scsi:0,0,2:lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol9

After that your vm should have the disk of 40 Go as c0t0d0 and the other as c0t2d0(only 10Go).
We need to be sure you're using the bigger and it's according to me safer to have it as first one to avoid error in the futur.

When you're in the "File System" part of the installation menu change all the flag indicating "Size: [Range MB ->]" for fixed one and then assign them enough space.

Let us know

Hope this helps

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

To avoid confusion, when I'm talking of disk it's only what you vm is seeing, which in fact is in our case only a logical volume on your host.

Host Guest
lvol10 --> c0t0d0
lvol9 --> c0t2d0

regards.

Hope this helps

Re: Errors while installing OS=11.23 on HPVM

Below are the commands I have used to creats vdisks

# lvcreate -L 40960m -n lvol9 vg00
# lvcreate -L 40960m -n lvol10 vg00
# lvcreate -L 40960m -n lvol11 vg00
# lvcreate -L 40960m -n lvol12 vg00

# hpvmmodify -P VM03A -a disk:scsi::lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol9
# hpvmmodify -P VM03A -a disk:scsi::lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol11
# hpvmmodify -P VM03B -a disk:scsi::lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol10
# hpvmmodify -P VM03B -a disk:scsi::lv:/dev/vg00/rlvol12

Did I miss out something... Do I need to remove all of them and recreate..
