Re: Exceed ??

X is a hog and the moew X the more resources consumed.

What kind of server are the users accessing?

What OS are you running?

How many users?

What version of Exceed?

How many windows open per user?

Are they using a "window manager"?

How are the connecting to the HP server? Xstart?

Re: Exceed ??

Could it be that multiple exceed sessions are allowing lots of jobs to be run on the system (in other words maybe the sessions aren't the problem as much as what the users are running through them)? What does glance or top show as your top consumers of resources? Is your performance problem CPU or disk?

Re: Exceed ??

Hi

Sure, If more number of users are using multiple X windows, system will go down. But they have to open sessions for their applications. What exactly U are looking for? Sur, System will go down. Solution is stop unnecessary sessions, Upgrade system resources like memory, swap area, Netwrork speed ..etc.

Best of luck

Re: Exceed ??

You can setup exceed to use telnet sessions instead of X windows. It won't put nearly the same load on you unix systems and will still give you more functionality than Windows telnet will.

Re: Exceed ??

Hi Sanman,

If you need a lot of user's getting X-windows sessions off a single server it's advisable to use a workstation to start the CDE sessions for the users & then they can rlogin or telnet to the server. Using the dt config files will allow you to make this a drop-down & click affair. This takes a majority of the session load off the server & puts it on the W/S. If the user count is fairly high you may need several W/Ss to carry that load.
But you can certainly bring a server to it's knees by running the entire Xsession for all users off of it.

Rgds,
Jeff

Re: Exceed ??

We use exceed extensively and it certainly does slow a system down. If you have multiple users that *must* use X try to spread it around different servers. One tip keep them off production where possible.
