extending a DLVM logical volume

i have a filesystem /usr/local/activesw
on a logical volume /dev/hatigapp/fs901 on a 11.11 system. in sam the logical volume shows up as type "DLVM"
when i select it and go to action menu to increase size, the option is not available and i don't see mounted filesystem on logical volume from sam either, how do i extend this logical volume

Re: extending a DLVM logical volume

DLVM = Distributed LVM

Apparently DLVM LV's can not be administered via SAM. Have a look at this TKB document:
http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000073730447
DOC ID=8606352134

Also take a look at this document:
http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000062950423
DOC ID=A5403243

It states the while you can't manage DLVM LV's through SAM, you can use the normal commands on the command line.

To extend an LV you would do:

# lvextend -L new_size_in_MB /dev/hatigapp/fs901
# fsadm -b new_size_in_blocks /mountpoint

If this LV is in use by 2 systems in a MC/SG cluster I don't know what effect this would have on the other node.

I have never worked with DLVM.

Re: extending a DLVM logical volume

Is this box part of an mc/sg cluster? SAM doesn't work on DLVM or SLVM volume groups... so I would use the command line to extend the filesystem.

Use lvextend to extend the lvol, then fsadm to extend the filesystem. If you don't have online jfs, you'll need to unmount the filesystem before you can extend it.

lvextend -L new_size_MB /dev/vg_name/lvol
fsadm -F vxfs -b blocks /mount

Hope this helps,

Re: extending a DLVM logical volume

Hi,

As it is a DLVM logical volume so will require a bit of more caution to have error free extend. Can you post the output of "vgdisplay -v /dev/hatigapp" and "lvdisplay -v /dev/hatigapp/fs901".

As it is a distributed logical volume across multiple physical volumes, it is important to see the free space across all volumes before extending.
