Extending root file system by VxVM
Both of CLI and vmsa reporting error when i did increasing /opt.
Does /opt can be resized online ? or must be in single user like LVM ?
Any suggestion ?
Thanks,
Jhui

Re: Extending root file system by VxVM
VxVM is Veritas Volume Manager, not the Veritas Files System (usually shortened to VxFS, and also known as JFS on HP-UX).
There should be no problem extending the volume that the /opt filesystem is on, but once the volume has been extended, the filesystem must also be extended, and this may be where your problem is. If you don't have the *full* version of Veritas file system (usually appears as 'OnLine JFS' in a swlist listing), then the filesystem can't be extended online. To extend the filesystem in this situation it must be unmounted, which usually means going to single user mode for /opt as many system daemons access this filesystem.
Of course if you told us what the error message you are getting is, it might clarify this.
Incidentally /opt is not normally created as a contiguous volume.

Re: Extending root file system by VxVM
You can use the command
#fsadm for this purpose. Pl check the man page of FSADm for details.

Re: Extending root file system by VxVM
Still keep in mind the remark of SEP, because it won't even extend with onlineJFS when the volume is configured contiguous.
