extracting mountpoints recursively from an ignite tape?
I know one can extract a file from an ignite tape using:
mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn rew
mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 1
tar -xvf /dev/rmt/0mn /etc/host
Can I extract two mountpoints with files that exist under the respective mount points. For instance, would the following command be valid?
tar -xvf /dev/rmt/0mn rprd00 var/opt/omni
Where rprd00 and var/opt/omni are mount points.
Thanks,
..Joe

Re: extracting mountpoints recursively from an ignite tape?
I think you will have to try it out.
Ignite tapes were meant to be booted from. Individual files should be extracted from a tar archive or restored from fbackup after Ignite lays down the system.

Re: extracting mountpoints recursively from an ignite tape?
I believe that should work. Once you 'fsf 1' past the boot record on the tape, the rest of the tape is just in tar format. So whatever would work with a normal tar tape will work with an Ignite tape.
This is of course assuming that if you are using a newer version of Ignite and make_tape_recovery that you haven't used the -m option and told it to use cpio instead of tar. If you do not specify tar or cpio with the -m option then tar is still the default.

Re: extracting mountpoints recursively from an ignite tape?
This will work , once you run fsf 1 try tar to get this mountpoint restored
tar xvf /dev/rmt/0mn rprd00 (note that there is no / while specifying your mountpoint)
Goodluck,
-USA..
