Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
I am facing a problem while configuring network printers into hpux 11i os environment. I am configuring the printers using jetdirect [hppi] utility..printer is situated at another location across the routers . I can ping to the ip address assigned to the printer's [HP8000Dn/5si/4si/HP8500DN] card but when trying to install it gives the error attached .

Re: Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
You probably have a router which is blocking snmp traffic.
Check them.

Re: Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
You probably have to check the router config if it let's through snmp requests !

Re: Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
Another thought.
Could you have a duplicate IP
remove the printer from the net and try pinging again.

Re: Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
If I have HP box behind firewall which port/protocol I have to enable for jetadmin functionality. Is ICMP protocol takes care of ? ...I mean if I am able to ping to the network printer will it configured for printing?

Re: Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
snmp ports should be reachable 161/162
As well on router as firewall.

Re: Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
As a basic check that you are taking to the correct device you could try setting it up as a remote printer as follows:
1. Create an DNS entry or add to your /etc/host file.
2. Using SAM, go to configure remote printer (not Network printer)
3. Add remote host name , for remote queue name I normally keep it the same as the local queue name.
4. For BSD printer I usually leave this as default un-checked.
Unfortunatly this only works for a single port unit

Re: Facing problem in jetdirect printer installation
Did you try to set up the printer by selecting the Ignore, and go a ahead with the set up. I can slighlty remember running into this at one site, but I cant remember for the life of me the actual issue, but I can recall as long as I was able to ping it,
I would ignore, that message, continue with the install, and it worked fine. I wish i could rember if it was cause of some equipment, or like in your case across routers.
I would try it.
