Failed mirror drive on HPUX 11i v2

I have a failed mirror drive. It's not the primary disk but the one that mirrors the primary disk. I replaced it but the "ioscan -fnC disk" reports "NO_HW", see below output.

Also, the "diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c2t6d0" returns t he following...
#diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c2t6d0
diskinfo: can't open /dev/rdsk/c2t6d0: No such device or address

What do I need to do to make Unix see the new disk?

#ioscan -fnC disk

Try unload the drive wait 10 seconds and then reload the drive. I assume that your fdrive is hotplugable.
you should be able to see the drive light on. If that is not the case then the drive maybe DOA

Re: Failed mirror drive on HPUX 11i v2

Do simply an "ioscan -fn"; if the device still reports as NO_HW then you still have some sort of hardware problem. In fact, your original disk may have been fine and your actual problem might be the controller, cabling, power to the disk, or bad termination. It's not unheard of for the replacement disk to be bad as well. The first thing that I would do is remove the replacement drive and make certain that any jumper placements are identical.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Failed mirror drive on HPUX 11i v2

It is hot swapable and I did see the LED come on for a quick second. I'm going to go up to the datacenter and swap out the drive for another one and see if it does anything.

If the drive is good, shouldn't the ioscan find it and call it "CLAIMED"?

Re: Failed mirror drive on HPUX 11i v2

You should see "CLAIMED" if the device is responding and can be recogized as a known device. "CLAIMED" means that the device is talking to the host and the host has associated a driver with the device. It's possible for a device to be communicating but not actually recogized as a known device (because possibly a needed driver is not installed in the kernel) and then the status is "UNCLAIMED". In the case of disks, you should definitely see "CLAIMED". "NO_HW" is always bad.

Re: Failed mirror drive on HPUX 11i v2

I replaced the disk with another known working one and I got the same thing. I ran the command "ioscan -fn" and it was still NO_HW. I got fed up with it and moved the virtual machines off of that nPar and bounced it.

Now it's back to "CLAIMED". Now all I need to do is re-configure it as the mirror drive.

Thanks everyone for your help.
