Failed to initialize. Status = -7 when booting

I am trying to boot a A400 machine, it results with folllwing error:
-------------------------
Booting
Failed to initialize.

ENTRY_INIT
Status = -7
-------------------------

I guess it is possible bad disk. And try to use the boot disk on other A400 machine, it works well.
Is it bad adapter to disk? How can I verify this and what should I do now?

Please help. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Failed to initialize. Status = -7 when booting

Check the following link for a doc on ENTRY_INIT problems. The doc id is: DFQKBCA00000112
http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000062687387

A -7 indicates a device that isn't responding or isn't there (incorrect address, etc.).

If your system is up, you can use ioscan to verify the address of the disk that isn't working. If ioscan shows the disk, use dd to check it (dd if=/dev/rdsk/c?t?d? of=/dev/null bs=2048k) and if it is a mirror check it with vgdisplay and lvdisplay to make sure the VG And LVs are sync'ed and not stale. There are also troubleshooting tips in the above doc.

Re: Failed to initialize. Status = -7 when booting

Yes, I have use ioscan to search the disk, it can be found, and dd action also reflects the disk is in good condition. (actually, I have used it to boot from another machine)
How can I check the path to the disk and get which parts are in trouble?

Re: Failed to initialize. Status = -7 when booting

The doc that Patrick has pointed out clearly state that the -7 status means ..
"The device address supplied to ENTRY_INIT is valid, but, the target controller or device is not installed or is not responding."
If you said that it boots up in another server then we can conclude that the disk is fine. Can you let us know are you installing it internally or externally ? On a A400 there are 2 slots that you can choose if you are installing it internally (on the left side as you removed the front bezel). Have you tried both the slots ? Can you also run this after you interrupt the bootup ..

Main Menu : Enter > sea ipl

What does it say ?

Re: Failed to initialize. Status = -7 when booting

The A400 has 2 disks, both are installed internally. Try to boot from the other slot but fail.(see attached).
When I use "sea" to search boot path, sometimes I can only see the non-boot disk, but somtimes I can find both of them.

Re: Failed to initialize. Status = -7 when booting

It sounds like hardware problem to me, not the disks but rather the internal bus or the CPU (from the attached file). Have you try to proceed with the boot process by entering "A" to acknowledge the error message ? What shows up after that ? One more question what is the OS version you got on this disk ?

Re: Failed to initialize. Status = -7 when booting

- Entering "a" in above screen, it results to the same screen finally after reboot.
- OS version is HP-UX 11.0
