Re: fbackup & make_recovery - 2 questions

About the yes/no answers for running fbackup(1M) (and frecover(1M)) on HP-UX to a remote tape unit on a non-HP-UX/Sun system:

fbackup uses rmt(1M) on the remote system. While fbackup is indeed HP proprietary, rmt(1M) is rather 'UNIX-standard' (Berkeley actually), so also a non-HP/Sun system is likely to have rmt(1M). Like the manual page says, fbackup expects rmt(1M) in /usr/sbin/rmt or /etc/rmt.

Like others have indicated, you need remsh(1) to work before being able to use rmt(1M) on the remote system, so:

As root on the HP system:
# remsh SUNhost date

If that works, fbackup+rmt should also work. If that does not work, fbackup+rmt will also not work and you will first have to get the remsh to work (by fixing ~root/.rhosts on the Sun host).
