fbackup commands

hi there,
what commands/switches can i use to run fbackup using a DLT 8000 tape drive? i ran it through the SAM, it worked, but thats a bit tedious, and i cant find what command line was used. what command can i use to run directly from root?. i used "/usr/sbin/fbackup/ 0i /usr/globus/bnk/bnk.data -f /dev/rmt/1m". i used this command but it still didnt backup, it gave me header errors and so on. what can i do?..any ideas?...

Re: fbackup commands

A very simple way of using fbackup is this. What is does is rewind the tape and then proceed to backup /usr

# mt -t /dev/rmt/1m rew (rewinds the tape)
# /usr/sbin/fbackup -i /usr -f /dev/rmt/1m

Here is also a script that I wrote a while back that you can use.

Re: fbackup commands

Hi,

You have a couple of options here:

1) use the samlog viewer to see the command that sam used; however that will lead you to a script that you may find hard to follow.

2) fbackup -0i /usr/globus/bnk/bnk.data -f /dev/rmt/1m should also work (note the dash in front of the zero.)

It's likely that the header errors you mention are just because the tape hasn't been used by fbackup previously. Post the errors on this thread so people can confirm for you.

regards,

Darren.

Re: fbackup commands

For modern devices like DLT, always specify a config file ("-c" option) and in that file use at least blockperrecord set to 64 (KB).

Re: fbackup commands

Hi,

Include these in your config file (with -c option):
blocksperrecord 256
records 32
checkpointfreq 1024
readerprocesses 6
maxretries 5
retrylimit 5000000
maxvoluses 200
filesperfsm 2000

You can save them as fbackup.config under /var/adm/fbackupfiles/
