Re: fbackup error
I'd clean the drive and replace the tape with a new one.

Re: fbackup error
If the drive has been well-cleaned and you are using new tapes, try writing with 'tar'. Also, how much work does 'fbackup' do before it fails? Using (v)erbose logging will help ascertain that.

Re: fbackup error
It also can be a Firmware issue with the tape-drive.

Re: fbackup error
The time taken for the tape to fail usually varies, although most of the time it is soon after the tape has been put in. How can I tell if this is a firmware issue?
Thanks!

Re: fbackup error
Normally tar does its work silently use "tv" option to have good explanation of what is going on.
If you get the same write error's even with tar then it is time for you to put in a purchase order. :)
Hope this helps.

Re: fbackup error
If this is a recent fault on an otherwise healthy backup routine and you are using new tapes on a cleaned drive then suspect the tape drive.
Options to test are using tar as previously stated or create another fbackup routine and watch is go through.

Re: fbackup error
tapes, you've either got a mechanical
problem or most likely a software problem.
Send a swlist output and we'll have a look.

Re: fbackup error
Insert a Tape in the device and run
diskinfo -v /dev/
and then ask the HP guys to check you're firmware level for the drive.

Re: fbackup error
We had the tape drive replaced on the weekend. Since then the error messages have stopped appearing. Thanks a lot.
